Dubliners to wake up and return the coffee cup
Single-use coffee cups could be eliminated in Dublin if a pilot scheme proves successful.
Coffee drinkers at two universities and Dublin city council will test a deposit initiative designed to encourage them to keep and return reusable plastic cups.
The Co-Cup scheme will be run in conjunction with Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University and 2gocup, a start-up based in the city.
Coffee shops can buy the cups he sells for €1 each and then they can pay a small fee to be involved in the social media marketing campaign.
Murphy says participating coffee shops will save around 80 per cent on the cost of cups each year through involvement in the scheme.
We’ve been looking to partner with a cup producer who could help us bridge the gap between convenience and environmental awareness.
We’re really excited to be working with 2GoCup and we’re confident that the scheme will be welcomed by regular and new guests at Baltzersen’s..
